In the music industry, this sentiment is a mixture of exhilaration and trepidation. AI-generated voice clones and music generation platforms are prompting us to contemplate the future of music creation over the next few years. On the business front, the continuous pursuit of safeguarding artists, copyrights, likenesses, and revenue streams in the face of AI's rapid growth presents a formidable challenge, to say the least.

Let's delve into how AI is making waves in our industry:

Music Production

Creating music has become more accessible thanks to technology, but AI is taking accessibility to new heights. Apps like Boomy let you whip up instrumentals in seconds, akin to having a digital collaborator who never says, "Let's take a coffee break." It is truly astounding to contemplate what may be just over the horizon when it comes to music production, composition and performance. 

Stems

Ever wished you could dissect a song and use its components for your musical concoctions? AI makes it possible. It can disassemble songs into stems, those building blocks of audio that fuel remixes. Even producer Rodney Jerkins employed AI to extract Ol' Dirty Bastard's voice from a VHS tape for an SZA track. Talk about a remix revolution!

Hyper Speed

AI has the capacity to churn out music like a factory running on hyperdrive. Major labels are feeling the heat, as AI threatens to dilute their market share. It's like telling them, "AI's hosting its own streaming shindig, and everyone's invited!" The music landscape is evolving, and the industry is keeping a watchful eye.

Personalized Soundtracks

Picture music that adapts in real time to your every move. Start-ups like Reactional Music are making this a reality, crafting soundtracks that dynamically fit video games, VR experiences, workouts, and even Snapchat filters. It's akin to having your personal composer scoring the movie of your life in real time. This is mind blowing!

Music Pitching

Songwriters are experimenting with AI voice cloning synthesis to assist in pitching their tunes to top-tier artists. It's like a sneak peek of how an artist might sound on a track before hitting the recording booth. Many publishing companies are admitting that in the last several months more than 50% of the music submitted to them has a well-known artist voice already on the demo. This is causing concern for many of these artist. For instance if one of those demos happens to leak into on to the internet and it happens to be a great song, now you have a runaway viral song that the artist and their record company have very little control over. Case and point is the Fake Drake song “Heart on My Sleeve”. There is much to consider and very little time as AI is not sitting around waiting for anyone!
